Construction of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Regional Archive building in Akhaltsikhe has been resumed with a corrected project. On the recommendation of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, the process continues with an updated architectural planning structure. The construction process was halted after archaeological remains of the 17th-19th century building were found at the site of construction.
Upon discovering the archaeological site, specialists from the National Agency for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage were involved in its study. Archeological research was conducted by the Samtskhe-Javakheti History Museum of Ivane Javakhishvili. According to the report of the archaeological works, it was necessary to preserve the cultural and archaeological layers of the remains of the building, which, on the recommendation of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, changed the architectural planning structure of the building to preserve and not damage the archaeological layer.
In line with this recommendation, the original project, which was agreed with the Monument Protection Agency and the Akhaltsikhe Municipality Architecture Service, was modified and construction was resumed on April 2, 2019.
The expected completion date is May 2020. By order of National Agency of Public Registry Construction is carried out by the tender winner Khomeriki and Company LLC.
