The National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia launched a project aiming a new description of the collection of Georgian old printed books.
The collection of old printed books preserved in the Scientific-Reference Library of the National Archives of Georgia was created from the literature obtained during the expeditions in the 20-30s of the 20th century. This is more than 250 theological and secular books published in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Constantinople, Rome and other cities in 1709-1900.
The staff of Scientific-Reference Library and Scientific Division of the National Archives and Historical Central Archives are involved in the project.
During the project each book will be reviewed and described in detail. The valuable part of the census will be those Testimonies that are attached to the old books.
This will provide us with an extra important information about the rare books, its owners or the historical facts concerning to the book.
At the final stage of the project the catalog will be prepared, through which the National Archives of Georgia will inform the interested persons about Georgian Rare Books.
