The employees of the IT department of the National Archives of Georgia participate in the workshop “Cartography and Cadastral Maps”, hold on 6-7 November, in Pisa, Italy.
As part of the activities of the ENArC project – supported by the Culture 2007 – 2013 Program of European Union – the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa in cooperation with the Budapest City Archives (Hungary) and the National Archives of Malta organizes the workshop.
The main topics of the seminar are: History and cartographic analysis of cadastral surveys and mapping; Cadastral maps in archives: practices, projects, plans and visions; Digitisation and on-line publication of large-scale historical maps; Digitised maps and linking historical data relating to specific sites.
The theme of the representatives of the National Archives of Georgia is “Digitisation of Maps and the Geographical Informational System at the National Archives of Georgia”.
It’s worth mentioning that the National Archives has begun working on the project “Electronic Cartography”. It considers the creation of the digital copies of the maps, preserved at the National Archives, making their descriptions and locating in the data base. For the present time digital copies of about 1000 maps are made.
