Exhibition "100 Years of Lithuanian Representation in Transcaucasia" was opened at the Exhibition Pavilion of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia today, organized by the Embassy of Lithuania to Georgia, the National Archives of Georgia and the Central State Archives of Lithuania.

The exhibition was opened by: Teona Iashvili, Director General of the National Archives, Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Giedrius Puojunas, and Darius Jizis, Director of the Lithuanian Central State Archives.

The exhibition features archival documents of the activities of the Lithuanian representation in the Transcaucasia, preserved in the National Archives of Georgia and the Central State Archives of Lithuania, as well as archive documents reflecting the work of the two countries, the political development of the two countries, state symbols, work of the first governments, as well as the Acts of Restoration of the Independence of the Republics of Georgia and Lithuania.

100 years ago, in January 1919, the Lithuanian Mission officially started operating in Tbilisi. It was a difficult and challenging time for both countries. The State of Lithuania became Pranas Dailide in the Transcaucasia.

Just as today, 100 years ago, Lithuania and Georgia were striving for one goal: the delegations of the two countries worked closely together to seek recognition at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference.

Unfortunately, diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Georgia were interrupted in 1921 by the Soviet occupation of Georgia. In February of that year, Pranas Dailide left Tbilisi. Lithuania, along with other countries, protested Georgia's occupation. The Lithuanian Consulate in Tbilisi was in operation until May 1922.

In 1991 Georgia recognized Lithuania de Jure, and in 1994 diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored.

The exhibition will continue until March 17 at the National Archives of Georgia.
