The Fifth International Conference of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia "Archival Studies, Source Studies - Trends and Challenges" opened today.
The event was opened by the Director General of the National Archives of Georgia Teona Iashvili. Conference participants were welcomed by: David Fricker, President of the International Council on Archives (ICA); Charles Farruja, Director of the European Division of the International Council on Archives (EURBICA), Director of the Malta Archives; Director General of the National Archives of Finland Jusie Norteva; Zaza Abashidze, Director of the Korneli Kekelidze Georgian National Center of Manuscripts; Rismag Gordeziani, Doctor of Philosophy; Vasil Kacharava, President of the Georgian Association for American Studies.
The report at the international conference will be read by about 180 Georgian and foreign scientists. Apart from Georgia, the participants include representatives of scientific circles from Germany, Italy, Greece, Finland, Japan, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The Fifth International Conference is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Archives of Georgia and the 300th anniversary of the birth of King Erekle II.
The event includes the following scientific directions: archival science; Source science; Antiquities; History / Art, History / Ethnology; Philology (codicology-textology); Intercultural communications; Restoration-conservation; Digital archives and databases; Cultural heritage management; Georgia and the South Caucasus in 1918-1921; King Erekle II.
The aim of the conference is to gather scientific news, to stimulate close scientific ties between Georgian and foreign scientists, to promote interdisciplinary and intercultural research, to share news in the field of digital humanities.

The online conference on the ZOOM platform will be held on September 24 and 25 and will be divided into 4 parallel sessions per day. During the break - at the conference on September 24 from 14:10 to 14:50 and on September 25 from 13:10 to 13:50, attendees will be able to see the unique film documents preserved in the National Archives.
